ORANGE - Tesoro quarterback Brett Mason let out a sigh of relief after the Titans’ 45-14 victory over host El Modena on Thursday night.

“It was about time,” Mason said.

The senior quarterback guided the offense to five first-half scoring drives, which proved to be more than enough for Tesoro to earn its first victory of the season.

“We thought the success of last year was going to roll over into this year,” Mason said. “The seniors didn’t really realize that this is our team now, and it is up to us to take it upon ourselves to step up.”

The Titans (1-2) outgained the Vanguards (1-1) 236 to 19 in the opening half.

“I think our kids really turned a corner tonight,” Tesoro coach Brian Barnes said.

Brian Stiefel led the Vanguards on two fourth-quarter scoring drives.
