El Modena stifles Foothill (updated)
ORANGE - Foothill’s rally in the fourth quarter fell short as El Modena took home a 24-21 victory Friday at El Modena High.
El Modena’s Dylan Burke intercepted Foothill quarterback Kyle Dupin’s pass with 3:47 left in the fourth quarter set up a Jamie Cacciatore 34-yard field goal. Foothill’s defense had forced a fumble with 5:58 to play in the fourth quarter before the interception.
The Knights opened the scoring with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Dupin to Jake Dupre. El Modena responded with a 44-yard touchdown run by Brian Stiefel.
Later in the half, the Vanguards’ Kyle Calvo took a pass from Stiefel for 72 yards to make it 14-7. In the third quarter, Troy Tucker of Foothill capped a 10-play drive with a 5-yard run that tied the score.
The Vanguards’ Ryan Arballo then capped a 13-play drive with a 3-yard touchdown run as time ran out in the third quarter. Dupin threw another touchdown to Santiago Rodriguez with 1:07 left in the fourth before an onside kick was recovered by El Modena.
